我很高興在此向大家介紹李堯翻譯的這套重要的澳大利亞文學作品選集。

在李堯翻譯生涯進入第四十個年頭的時候，重溫澳大利亞一些偉大的文學作品可謂正逢其時。

正是由於李堯對澳大利亞文學作品中譯的不懈努力，亞力克西斯·賴特、帕特里克·懷特、托馬斯·肯尼利和考琳·麥卡洛等人的作品將繼續給中國讀者帶來愉悅。

從這部譯文集裡，我們既能看到澳大利亞獨特的原住民故事，也能讀到反映澳大利亞現代、多元社會的作品。

譯文集的跨度以及李堯譯作中的中國興趣既反映了澳大利亞文學的豐富性，也體現了中澳兩國關係的深度。

中澳兩國1972年12月建立外交關係，譯文集的出版正值建交四十五週年。這也為我們提供了一個契機，慶祝所取得的成就，並思考如何通過文學交流等方式豐富彼此的社會。

作者、譯者、出版社和讀者之間的諸多夥伴關係促成了這部譯文集的完成，這也是構成中澳關係豐富肌理的一個重要部分。
